Good questions, straight answers.
Everything people usually ask before their first repair. If yours isn't here, send it over.
Ask a questionGetting started
You don't need to diagnose it. Start with the symptoms, add a few photos if you can, and I'll help identify the right next step before any work begins.
Your contact details, postal code or neighbourhood, instrument type, brand or model if you know it, what seems wrong, how soon you need it, and whether you'd prefer pickup or drop-off. The Start your repair form walks you through all of it.
They help a lot, but don't stress over them. A couple of clear phone shots of the problem area are plenty to get started.
No. Nothing gets worked on until you've approved the scope and the price in writing.
Pickup & delivery
Yes. Pickup and delivery run on a weekly route within 15 km of Islington Station. Drop-off by arrangement works too.
Zone 1 (0-5 km from Islington Station) is included. Zone 2 (5-10 km) adds a $20 travel fee. Zone 3 (10-15 km) adds a $35 travel fee.
In Zone 1, yes. Zones 2 and 3 carry flat travel fees, and there's no order size that removes them automatically. Larger jobs, multiple instruments, school accounts, and route-efficient pickups may qualify for reduced or waived fees.
Travel fees are charged once per pickup and return cycle, not per instrument, unless separate trips are needed.
Pricing & approval
Common services have published flat-rate prices that apply when the work fits the listed scope. Anything outside that is quoted individually as custom work.
If the picture changes after inspection, I'll confirm the new scope and price with you before any additional work begins.
Strings are charged at cost plus 15%. Other parts are charged separately when they're needed, and they're always in the quote before you approve it.
The cash discount stacks with one other discount. Student, first-time, and punch card discounts don't stack with each other.
Anyone who can show they're a student: university, college, music school, any kind. Students and staff of music schools qualify too. No specific ID format required.
Turnaround & rush
Most setups, restrings, basic care, and simple electronics work targets 3 to 5 business days on the bench after the instrument arrives and the work is approved. Door-to-door timing depends on the weekly route.
Each service shows rush eligibility as a simple yes or no. A yes means the job can be considered for rush handling after review, not that rush is automatic.
No. Rush service is never guaranteed until I've confirmed it with you.
Fretwork, structural repairs, finish-sensitive work, and complex custom jobs generally aren't rushed. Good results on that kind of work take the time they take.
Instruments & services
Acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass guitars, classical guitars, 12-string guitars, mandolins, and ukuleles.
Selected bowed-instrument and bow work may be available by request, quoted individually after review. There's no published price list for that work.
Yes. Structural repairs need an inspection before work begins, and some are quoted individually.
Warranty & follow-up
Workmanship issues connected to work I performed, and directly related adjustment concerns from the completed service.
New damage, environmental movement, unrelated failures, failures of customer-supplied parts, normal wear, and work done elsewhere.
Get in touch within 60 days. I'll take a look, and if it's connected to the work I did, I'll make it right.
Policies
Not at the moment. Bowed-instrument and bow work is quoted individually after review.
Sometimes. Larger jobs, multiple instruments, school accounts, and route-efficient pickups may qualify for reduced or waived travel fees.
